Nestled in the Savegre River Valley and protected by the Talamanca Mountain Range is a birdwatcher´ heaven. Begin your journey visiting the home of the famous resplendent quetzal as well as to dozens of other species and spend a couple of days on the Costa Rica Highlands. Far away from crowds you will enjoy the tranquility of this misty forest before it is time to discover one of the best-kept secrets in Costa Rica further south on the Pacific Coast of the country at Punta Banco. Peter and his family will await you share with you their dream they called ¨home¨. No better place to end your exploration of the Natural Side of Costa Rica than at Tiskita Jungle Lodge.

Day-by-Day Description Itinerary:

Day 1. Arrive in Costa Rica followed by private transfer to Don Carlos Hotel or similar for the first night in Costa Rica. This is the time to ask our representative all the questions you want and what is to come on your special trip. Located in the oldest historical section of San José, the Don Carlos Hotel is a small, but significant part of Costa Rica’s rich heritage. The Don Carlos was once the residence of two past Presidential families, this historique Hotel is  warm and charming. Accommodation in Superior Room. (B)


Day 2. Breakfast at Hotel (Included). Meet your private driver to ascend to the Talamanca Mountain Range on route to San Gerardo de Dota Valley. You will arrive to Savegre Lodge by noon with afternoon at leisure to observe and photograph dozens of species of birds presented in the area. Don Efraín Chacón and his family arrived here in San Gerardo in 1954 being the first pioneers settling down in this valley. Over 170 bird species have been observed in the area and its multiple hiking trails in the Cloud Forest. This is known as one of the best places in the country to observe Quetzals. The lodge hosts the Quetzal Education Research Center Complex (QERC), a cooperative venture with the Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma. Accommodation at Savegre Lodge in a Junior Suite. Day 3. Early breakfast at Lodge (Included) before joining a birdwatching walk with a resident guide.Various migratory species arrive throughout the different seasons of the year, joining the native species to add still more colorful views for birdwatchers. Among the visitors are the Orioles, Warblers, Tennessees and Raptors - while their native hosts include Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher, Yellow-winged Vireo, the Flame-throated Warbler, Black-cheeked Warbler, Yellowish Flycatcher, Barred Becard, Scintillant Hummingbird, and of course the most wanted Resplendent Quetzal just to mention a few.  You will be back to the lodge before noon with time at leisure for the rest of the day. Days 4. Breakfast at Lodge (Included) followed by morning private transfer back to central valley to check-in for a charter flight (45 min approx) down to the southern region of the country flying low across the Golfo Dulce to the private airstrip of Tiskita Jungle Lodge. The best kept secret in Costa Rica, Tiskita Jungle Lodge offers guests the opportunity to experience pristine tropical rainforest and wilderness beaches on its  biological reserve either on foot or horseback. Located in the southwest coast of Costa Rica, Tiskita is as remote as one can get, distant from the sounds of cars and telephones. Tiskita also hosts and abundance of wildlife, not least of which, the sighting of over 270 species of birds, and a myriad of mammals.

You will be welcomed at the airstrip for a short drive to the main lodge and your cabin. Lunch will be served at the main lodge where you will have the opportunity to meet Peter´s Family. Afternoon open to relax and explore the grounds until dinner (Included). Accommodation in an Ocean and Jungle View Cabin. (BLD)
Day 5. Breakfast at Lodge (Included). While drinking your morning coffee at the main lodge, guests typically observe over 30 species in the trees overlooking the ocean, including Trogons, Honeycreepers, Toucans, Hummingbirds, Manakins and Scarlet Macaws. After breakfast get ready for your first group guided walk.  There are few places comparable to Tiskita when it comes to birding; one of the few places where one can spot so many different birds in such a small area. Guided walks are offered through its 800 acres of rainforest covering both primary and secondary rainforest, mountain watershed, streams, lowland coastal regions and the ocean tide pool habitat. A well-marked extensive trail system has been developed allowing visitors to experience this wide range of topical habitats. Back to the lodge for lunch (Included) and afternoon at leisure. (BLD)

Day 6. Breakfast at Lodge (Included) before taking your second guided walk. Today you can explore a different trail to continue discover the abundant wildlife on this remote corner of Costa Rica with the company of your resident naturalist  guide. During the afternoon you can visit the coast opposite Tiskita which is made up of pristine wilderness beach stretching for miles, and perfectly suited for long walks. The beach is lined with coconut palm trees and beach almonds that serve as habitat for wildlife, or shade from the sun. A wonderful swimming beach is located directly in front of Tiskita. Late in the afternoon enjoy a golden sunset stretching across the Pacific, and observe the setting sun. Lunch and dinner are included. (BLD)


Day 7. Breakfast at Lodge (Included) with early morning at leisure to explore the Lodge grounds before taking the charter flight back to San Jose. Upon arrival private transfer to gorgeous Xandari Plantation for your last night in Costa Rica. With only 22 individually designed villas nestled on a 40 acre plantation overlooking the Central Valley of Costa Rica, Xandari Plantation is proud of its beautiful tropical gardens with exquisite collections of native fruit trees and bright color flowers.  Each spacious villa is surrounded by gardens featuring a large view terrace for enjoying the sunset and lights of the valley at night. Day 8. Breakfast at Hotel (not applicable for early departure flights) followed by private transfer to international Airport for your return flight home.
