Come on this special trip to Costa Rica. When you think about Costa Rica, you probably imagine lush tropical Rain Forests, active volcanoes, pristine rivers, spectacular waterfalls, colorful birds, butterflies and flowers. Our special trip will offer all of this and much more. Travel from central valley up to the volcanic mountain range visiting the Poas Volcano National Park and La Paz Waterfall Gardens on route to the Caribbean lowlands at Sarapiqui area. A dramatic change on the scenery will come as you travel by plane down to the southern pacific region of the country to explore one of the best-kept secrets in Costa Rica at Punta Banco.
Day-by-Day Description Itinerary:

Day 1 Arrive in Costa Rica followed by private transfer to Don Carlos Hotel or similar for the first night in Costa Rica. It is time for you to ask our representative all the questions you want and what is to come on your special trip. Located in the oldest historical section of San José, the Don Carlos Hotel is a small, but significant part of Costa Rica’s rich heritage. Once upon a time residence for two past Presidential families, the historical Hotel Don Carlos’ warmth and charm, graciously awaits you. Accommodation in Superior Room. (B)

Day 2 Breakfast at Hotel (Included) Meet your private driver and start travelling up to the central volcanic mountain range enjoying great views of the coffee plantation and ornamental plant fields as you ascend to nearly 9,000 feet to explore one of the most spectacular volcanoes in the country. Poas’ crater is an enormous, gaping hole one kilometer in diameter and 314 meters deep. At the bottom, there is a circular hot lake. The long-extinct von Frantzius composite cone-the oldest eruptive center on the massif, is at the north of the active crater. Another cone named Botos is to the southwest. It was the active center until 7,500 years ago and now contains an astonishingly beautiful cold water lake some 400 meters in diameter.

As you start to descend toward the Caribbean slopes you will visit the gorgeous La Paz Waterfalls Gardens Park. With over 2 miles of walking trails and many different attractions such as the Aviary, Butterfly Observatory, Hummingbird Garden, Serpentarium, Frog Exhibit and much more, this is an excellent place for a lunch stop (Included). You will have time explore the different waterfalls of the Park before heading further down to the tiny villages of San Miguel, La Virgen and the Sarapiqui area.

Arrive to Sarapiqui´s Rainforest Lodge in the evening. The architecture of this Ecolodge is inspired by the indigenous pre-Columbian construction techniques of the region, used by natives far more than 1000 years. The round palenques (or ranchos) are covered with a traditional thatched roof of palm leaves. This palenque structure is central to the Sarapiquí´s concept: the story of nature and its relationship to mankind. The circular design symbolizes the circle of life - an intricate link between the cycles of the biodiversity within the rainforest.

Dinner at the Lodge (Not Included) before joining the interesting Night Bat Tour to La Tirimbina Rainforest Center. Did you know that bats represent 50% (110 species) of Costa Rican mammals? This is a great opportunity to enhance your education, dispel myths you may have heard about these wonderful mammals, and enjoy this adventure into the world of the bats.

The tour includes a multi-media presentation on the history of bats, their classification system, diversity, adaptations, reproduction methods, threats, and more. The most popular part of the Bat Tour, a trained guide will provide visitors a safe opportunity to touch, feed and release safely captured bats. Visitors can also take a short guided walk (15–30 min.) to see the mist nets used to gently catch these creatures. The bats are kept for less than 2 hours. Professional methods are used to assure the well-being of the animals.

Day 3 Breakfast at Lodge (Included) followed by morning local transportation to the world famous La Selva Biological Station for a private guided tour with a resident local naturalist guide. The reserve is located at the confluence of two major rivers in the Caribbean lowlands of northern Costa Rica, La Selva comprises 3,900 acres of tropical wet forests and disturbed lands. It averages over 13 feet of rainfall that is spread surprisingly evenly throughout the year.

La Selva was originally established in 1954 by Dr. Leslie Holdridge, as a farm dedicated to experimentation on mixed plantations for the improvement of natural resources management. It was purchased in 1968 by the Organization for Tropical Studies and declared a private biological reserve and station. Since then, it has become one of the most important sites in the world for research on tropical rain forest. Over 240 scientific papers are published yearly from research conducted at the site.

Transfer back to Sarapiqui´s Rainforest Lodge for overnight. You can easily arrange an Evening activity directly at the lodge front desk. Activities range from an afternoon chocolate tour, a night guided walk, or a night frog tour at the nearly La Tirimbina Rainforest Center. Please contact us for more information. (Tours not included)

Day 4. Breakfast at Lodge (Included) followed by morning private transfer back to central valley crossing the Braulio Carrillo National Park Braulio. The park takes its name of the country’s third Chief of State, who in 1839 believed it was necessary to open a road that would connect the Caribbean port of Limon with the country’s capital of San Jose.

Upon arrival to airport you will check-in for a charter flight (45 min approx) down to the southern region of the country flying low across the Golfo Dulce to the private airstrip of Tiskita Jungle Lodge. The best kept secret in Costa Rica, Tiskita Jungle Lodge offers guests the opportunity to experience pristine tropical rainforest and wilderness beaches on its 800 acre biological reserve either on foot or horseback. Located in the southwest coast of Costa Rica, Tiskita is as remote as one can get, distant from the sounds of cars and telephones. Its collection of over 125 different species of tropical fruit is one of the largest in the world, and guests are welcome to enjoy as much of it as they wish. Tiskita also hosts and abundance of wildlife, not least of which, the sighting of over 270 species of birds, and a myriad of mammals.

You will be welcomed at the airstrip for a short walk to the main lodge and your cabin. In fact, over 270 different species of birds have been observed at Tiskita!. Guided walks are offered through our 800 plus acres of rainforest covering both primary and secondary rainforest, mountain watershed, streams, lowland coastal regions and the ocean tide pool habitat. A well-marked extensive trail system has been developed allowing visitors to experience this wide range of topical habitats. Back to the lodge for lunch (Included) and afternoon at leisure. BLD

The beach is lined with coconut palm trees and beach almonds that serve as habitat for wildlife, or shade from the sun. A wonderful swimming beach is located directly in front of Tiskita. Late in the afternoon enjoy a golden sunset stretching across the Pacific, and observe the setting sun. Lunch and dinner are included. BLD
Day 7. Breakfast at Lodge (Included) with early morning at leisure for you to explore the Lodge grounds before taking the charter flight back to San Jose. Upon arrival private transfer to Alta Hotel for the last night in Costa Rica. The Alta is a small boutique hotel that consists of only 23 rooms.
